Dear Ms. Galang and Class 810,
We’ve made a ton
of memories this year, including all of the lessons learned in ELA. For
example, we’ve learned how to elaborate, take notes, understand roots and write
poetry. Out of all these topics, I loved remember the Romeo and Juliet unit and
when we wrote poetry and sonnets. Learning how to read Shakespeare will forever
be valuable because it teaches you how to understand something that you don’t.
Plus, reading Romeo and Juliet was a great way to start reading Shakespeare,
which will probably be continued in high school. Besides reading, being able to
do some acting, expressing your character in tableaus and memorizing lines was
a great experience because it was very exciting for everyone.
The second lesson
I found valuable was practicing with poetry and sonnets. This was memorable because I absolutely
enjoyed writing in a way where rhythm and iambic pentameter was used. Also
because writing poetry is very similar to something else I enjoy, writing
music. In this unit, I found myself putting in a lot of effort and trying my
best to make these rhythmic stanzas as perfect as I could get them to be.
Writing a sonnet was at first very difficult for me because of the syllables
and rhyming but I then ended up loving the challenge. The last thing I loved
about this unit was learning more, every time someone raised their hand to read
theirs out loud.
After I graduate,
I hope to read more than I did through out middle school to increase my all of
my reading skills. I also hope to read for longer periods of time and to read
books that I am not used to, to expand my reading experience. For my writing
goals, I would love to continue writing and learning more about poetry in high
school. I would also be interested in expanding my vocabulary since it isn’t so
great. All in all, it’s been an amazing year and I’m sure I’m going to remember
all of it.
